The biennial Ottawa Conference is a leading event in the calendar for educators in the healthcare professions across the continuum of basic, postgraduate and continuing education. Ottawa Conferences address the important topic of assessment of competence in medicine and the healthcare professions and recognise that assessment has to be integrated with curriculum development and the teaching and learning experience.

We invite you to the 17th Ottawa Conference in the beautiful city of Perth, Western Australia. We can promise some challenging, state of the art presentations from internationally recognised plenary speakers, thought-provoking symposia on topics that need to be discussed, and practical hands-on workshops from content experts. We invite you to share your own work by submitting preconference and conference workshops, symposia, oral presentations and posters.

Never before has the topic of assessment been more important. We look forward to seeing you in Perth.

Ronald M Harden
Chair – Ottawa 2016 Organising Committee

Welcome By ANZAHPE President

Dear friends in health professional education and assessment,

As President of ANZAHPE I have the enormous pleasure of welcoming you to the ANZAHPE 2016 Conference. As the peak association for health professional educators in Australia and New Zealand we are delighted to co-host this conference in combination with the 17th Ottawa Conference. This wonderful collaboration brings together passionate health professional educators from around the world and allows us to share knowledge about our practices, deepen our understandings of emerging educational and assessment approaches, form new relationships and renew old friendships. Perth is a vibrant city under a big, beautiful sky. I hope this conference will provide to all delegates of the combined conference an environment for us look afresh at our practices, and open our minds to some blue sky thinking. Along with all the members of the ANZAHPE Committee of Management I look forward to meeting you at the conference and at the many networking events. Please do come and say hello. ANZAHPE conferences are famous for their warm and welcoming atmosphere and their inclusive programs, with lots of opportunities for questioning and discussions. On the final night of the conference I look forward to seeing you on the dance floor at the President’s Dinner Dance so don’t forget to pack those dancing shoes.
